Nubo Huang: I am an entrepreneur as well as a poet

Jinglin Yang: You can see everything as long as you are alive

In the afternoon of May 30th, heated discussions were heard from the lecture hall of Wenquan Building of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law. Sounds like a debate contest was ongoing, but actually it was a discussion and communication between students and the speakers – as one of the lecture series to celebrate the 20th anniversary of MBA of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law.

Nubo Huang – the chairman of Beijing Zhongkun Investment Group and poet, and Jinglin Yang, the host of Phoenix TV program “Summary of Press” and commentator went to the lecture hall to deliver a speech with time limit to more than 200 students, namely each speaker had only 21 minutes to share their heart touching opinions. The lecture was organized by NanfangMedia Group, jointly organized by Zhongnan University of Economics and Law and Guangdong Jinghe Marketing Management Company, hosted by TianYanyou – one of the Money Figures of China’s Economy as well as our guest professor of MBA college.

Private enterprises: the struggle between alligators and yaks

Nubo Huang shared his own experience as an entrepreneur within his 21 minutes. He made an analogy between private entrepreneurs and yaks, who have to strive for themselves like yaks to obtain living space under current Chinese mechanisms. Once such entrepreneurs have become strengthen enough, they would be regarded as aggressive alligators, whose growth will be restricted by following policies. Therefore, they have to work silently as yaks.

Climbing the Mount Everest is a process of conquering myself as well as challenging myself

Referred to his experience of climbing the Mount Everest, Mr. Huang illustrated vividly as if the Mount Everest was in front of him: "We ascended to an icicles at night and spent a night there. In a period of time after returning from the Mount, I often woke up in the midnight and felt lucky to sleep on my bed at home, but experience of the night on the Mount was also memorable. Climbing the Mount Everest is a process of conquering myself as well as challenging myself.”

In his speech, I felt Mr. Huang was not to show off his experience in the Mount Everest. It is more like a dialogue with life for him, namely to purify the soul and share his life with the universe at the peak of the world.

Poems are squawks of poets’ hearts

As his identity as a poet, Mr. Huang said his poems are reflections and summaries of his experiences. He did not agree much to the conditions that people comment poems and criticize poets, because poems are squawks of poets’ heart, which should not be judged as good or bad.

You can see everything as long as you are alive

When Jinglin Yang talked about his pioneering days in Hong Kong in 1997, there was happiness rather than suffering on his face, although at that time his business establishment failed and he had to rely on savings. “ Iwas young and had to support the whole family. I felt helpless but still got through. I learned a lot during that time: no matter what misery you live through, ultimately you will see hope and happiness, as long as you are alive.” Mr. Yang said.

I started my business at 60 years old

As to resign from Phoenix TV at 60 years old, Yang said the main reason was the concept conflict about the program between him and executives, so he decided to started business at 60 years old. He leaded 20 young people to start a program in Tencent, of which the target audiences are 18-29 years old young people. Mr. Yang said the business establishment gave him second chance to live. He said it is not a fairytale to start business at 60 years old. It never be too late to do something as long as you are eager to do that.

After the speeches, audiences actively raised questions and communicated with the speakers, which has been described in the beginning paragraph. Students’ questions were so diversified that cover social order, corruption, development of the new media, life planning, university students’ innovative undertakings, etc..The speakers shared their opinions. With a student from Huazhong University of Science and Technology: “There are some irritating phenomena in current Chinese society such as immorality and censorship of speech, what’s your opinion?” Mr. Huang believed that current society was not the worst. 25 years ago, Chinese people have no chance to discuss freely like the lecture today. Weibo account can only be blocked but not kill people. We can selectively forget something and there is still a promising future of our society. Mr. Yang also said that China gains more freedom than before, so we should focus on the improvement rather than problems.  He also mentioned that degradation is a worldwide problem rather than a unique one in China. We’d better have a good contemplation of material life in order to better enhance the spiritual quality

The guest speakers had a frank communication with students and guests to let them have better “humble opinions” and understandings of their life, namely review the live with different views.

The speech and following discussions lasted for 3 hours, where guests had a good communication with students. Such lectures (with the name of “Humble Opinions”) will also be held in other universities. It is said that the weight of soul is 21g, so “Humble Opinions” cited the number 21 as the time limit. Humble Opinions aim to be a wisdom sharing platform by delivering heart touching and interdisciplinary speeches within 21 minutes. People in art, technology, media, innovation undertaking, public welfare and other industries who have stories, thoughts and interesting ideas will be invited to the “Humble Opinion” to share their experience and deliver speeches in universities. The focus is discussions and communications between the guest speaker and students. There are two unique breakthroughs of “Humble Opinion”: different from other commercial lectures; no restriction of themes.
